When I had an emergency c-section with Little A, the last thing I needed to stress about was what clothes to wear post surgery but sure enough every pair of knicks/trousers I put on seemed to dig right into my scar line and I spent a small fortune trialling various different items until I cracked what was comfy. Here are my thoughts on the matter…
Don’t laugh but these granny pants by Sloggi were just the ticket – yes they might be something sported by Nora Batty or Rab C Nesbitt but the high waistband sits perfectly above your scar line and the wide waistband means they don’t dig into your rather squidgy deflating tummy. Massively unattractive especially as you must order 4-6 sizes above your pre-pregnancy size to get them big enough but honestly money well spent to get you through the first few weeks. Next thing to worry about is trousers to go over the top. Of course dresses work well in the summer but if you want to lounge around on sofa and fear flashing the steady stream of visitors then maybe PJ bottoms or trews are your best bet. I lived in my Mamas & Papas Maternity pj bottoms – see these for a similar style – as their waistband is really high and they are super comfy. For trousers I would invest in a pair of roll top Yoga Pants. You can then wear them with the top unrolled and supporting your tummy – see these by Sweaty Betty.
For nursing I also love Isabella Oliver’s nursing cami – the ruching is totally forgiving over your tum and it is a great base for layering, I team mine with a cashmere cardi or shirt.
