Soho Styling – from House to Home

So with the Beckhams potentially taking up residence next to Soho Farmhouse and having enjoyed a cheeky weekender at Babington House in the run-up to Christmas, I have realised that one of the best things about the Soho House brand (aside from food/booze/spa loveliness) is their interiors.

I love their eclectic vintage vibe, peppered with luxurious velvets and leathers and all thrown in with a dash of chintz for good measure.  Waxing lyrically about our boudoir at BH to a friend, I was delighted when they pointed out to me that the Soho House brand now sell homewares online.  After giving Father C the nod, I was thrilled to find the lovely Logan rug under the Christmas tree this year and with its muted colour palette works perfectly well in bedrooms as it would in hallways and drawing rooms.

Aside from rugs they do armchairs, beds, throws, lamps, bedding to name but a few and there is a whole section offering up vintage delights too.  Essentially if you fancy recreating some Soho House chic at home then take a peek.

In the frame – DIY framing

framesIf you have ever been lucky enough to receive a piece of art or a print for your Little One’s nursery it can be quite a shock to realise it costs a fair bit to get it professionally framed.  With this in mind thought I would share my find… The Frame Company.  With a whole range of frames and mounts to choose from, you can generally get what you want for under £15 for standard sized frames.  They arrive by post and then you simply pop your artwork in and voila its framed and on your wall in no time.  Most are also available on Amazon and quite a few qualify for Prime delivery.  I love the duck egg blue frames, rustic pink and shabby chic grey – see above – but they do the classics too.  Great if you want to make a pressie extra special by framing it before you deliver it.

My Wonderwalls – gorgeous children’s wallpaper

rocking horseWhen I make discoveries like Cowparsley At Home it makes me instantly want to refurbish the kids’ bedrooms.   Inspired by country childhood memories and soft, faded florals, their wallpapers and fabrics are quite simply gorgeous.  I want to paper Little B’s room in their stunning ‘Rocking Horse and Stars’ print although that said their super sweet ‘Rabbits and Daisies’ wallpaper also tugs at my heart strings.  Their ‘Happy Bees’ fabric in grey would be gorgeous on a nursery chair or cushions too.  For now I have to be content filing my samples away in my ‘dream house’ folder but if you are looking for some nursery inspiration then look no further.

Rocking Horse and Stars wallpaper, £60.00
Rabbits and Daisies wallpaper, £60.00

Time for tea – melamine plates for kids

plates Call me a killjoy but a couple of years ago I got a bit bored of having a whole load of mismatched kids plates juggling for position in my kitchen cupboard.  I ended up hitting the Emma Bridgewater sale hard and replacing the lot with some lovely melamine Polka dot plates and bowls thus kitchen harmony was restored.

The other day whilst visiting a super stylish friend’s new house (the whole place could be Pinterested in a second) I noticed that when it was time for tea, out came these gorgeous kid-friendly (read shatterproof) plates and cups. ‘Where did you find those?’ I asked, only to be nearly knocked off my perch when she uttered back the three letters…BHS.  Yes these rather pretty blue and white plates are from good old BHS and are easy on the pursestrings too. If cool blues aren’t your palate there are some fun vintage floral ones too – see below.

Counting Sheep – Eco-friendly bedlinen for kids

Isla and Wilbur

Sorry for the lack of radio silence but the Easter holidays somewhat took over and it is only now that we are back in London Town after a fortnight enjoying the country air. One thing I love about going to stay with the Gramps is that for a change I don’t have to pay to go and look at some animals.  Now I am not knocking the wonders of Bocketts Farm or Battersea Park Zoo but once in a while it is good to get out into the great outdoors and play at being farmers for free.  In our household we have always been a little partial to Highland cows and luckily for us ‘Bumpa’ keeps a small herd t’up North. Resembling teddies when they are first born, Highlands generally have sweet, gentle dispositions and gorgeous hairdos to boot.  That is why I am delighted to have been introduced to the fresh new label Isla & Wilbur whose designs feature a rather lovely Highland cow.

Set up by parents for parents, Isla & Wilbur serves up gorgeous eco-friendly bedding for kids and babies.  Hand-drawn illustrations of Isla, the little lamb and Wilbur, the Highland calf, adorn the fabrics and all the bedding is made from 100% organic cotton percale and woven to a 300-thread count. A lovely alternative to what is out there on the high street so if you are looking for something a bit different for your nursery then definitely take a look.

Also worth mentioning their super soft muslin swaddles.  Great gift for new babes and large enough to sling over the pram to give some shade this summer.

Art Attack – stylish frames for children’s art

Every Friday Little A comes home from nursery with his rucksack stuffed to the brim with lovely artwork.  Recent masterpieces have included a rocket replete with tissue-paper flames, a potato-stamped cat and a dried pasta abstract wonder.  If you are in a similar boat and rather overwhelmed with your Little One’s creative gems then have a look at these genius frames that will have your walls looking streamlined in no time.

My mum bought one for us last Christmas and every week Little A chooses his two favourite pieces to go on show in our ‘Gallery’.  With handy holes on the back so you can hang it portrait or landscape, you simply slip the artwork in the side.  It banishes the need for blu-tac and will certainly declutter your fridge door and as there is no glass front it works equally well framing 3D creations too.  One to put on your own list for Father Christmas.

The new nest – beautiful beds

The bed

One of the things I was most excited about our new abode, was moving to a room big enough to fit a Super King size bed.  Ironic it may be when buying a new love nest, but the hubby and I were looking forward to some space to snooze and to call a truce on the duvet hogging. I trawled the shops with my list of requirements: a padded headboard, an upholstered base as opposed to a valance, and most importantly it had to be big enough to fit us and the littlies every Sunday morning.  My holy grail of beds was found at The White Company.  We plumped for the Richmond, upholstered in Grey Melton Wool Felt, and it is super cosy and every night I cannot wait to clamber into it.  The button detailing makes it quite classic and the grey tone gives you a neutral base for any bedroom.  We popped a John Lewis mattress on the top which cleverly (and crucially at no extra cost) has different tensions on each side (hard for him, medium for me) and decked it out in White Company bed linen.  Little A and Little B think it is a fabulous indoor trampoline and if Father Christmas delivers a sumptuous throw this Christmas our bed will certainly look magazine worthy indeed.

Party Perfection – cool partyware by littlelulubel

party
And so it seems that we are beginning the Spring party season and the invites for Little A are flowing in – mostly via the clever online invitation site Paperless Post.  If you are feeling swamped by the much loved but garish princess/superhero fare adorning most party shops then look no further than Little Lulubel. Covering all you need to kit out your Little One’s party from invites, table decorations, birthday candles, dressing up bits and bobs right through to wonderful ready made party bags.  I especially love the pre-filled party cones for their retro vibe – they include 2 to 3 pocket toys and around 5 different sweets all wrapped up with the message ‘thank you for coming to my party’.   You can buy whole themed kits or buy items individually which is just as fun as you can mix and match or mix and clash.  Already working out how to incorporate their super cute toadstool candles into Little B’s first birthday cake.

Deck the walls – beautiful nursery wallpaper

wallpaperMy fingers and toes are beginning to ache as I have had them crossed all week hoping to exchange on a new house.  Yep after nearly 8 magical years in our little abode it is nearly time to say goodbye to the house that has seen me get wed and bring 2 Little Ones back from hospital.  As the Estate Agent tactically put it we are ‘bursting at the seams’ and it is time to spread our wings a little in a bit more space.  My mind has already been racing with thoughts of decorating and and I am frantically Pinteresting ideas away for dreamy room decor much to my husband’s consternation.  This week’s discovery has been My Little Venture’s beautiful wallpaper.  Our faves are Hot Air Balloon design and the girly Flamingos.  Tasteful for both child and adult, their wallpapers are based on hand drawn artwork and come in three colourways.  One for the notebook.
